How it works
Plan it once, then keep growing together
- 01
Show us your space
Your ZIP code and a few photos. Not sure how big it is or how much sun it gets? We'll work it out from your photos, and a quick three-photo sun check settles it.
- 02
Get your designs
One to four garden designs for each space, each with a layout, a plant list with quantities, a bloom calendar and a month-by-month plan. Plan the front border, the back fence and the porch pots.
- 03
Keep asking
Ask anything, anytime, and send photos. Swap a plant, blend two designs, plan next year: your gardener knows your garden and changes the plan whenever you ask.

Questions
Good to know
Who answers my questions?
Your Knollwood Gardener uses AI (Claude, made by Anthropic) guided by the way we grow and plan gardens at Knollwood: right plant, right place, real varieties, and timing set by your frost dates. It isn't a person, and it isn't reviewed before you see it, so treat it like a very knowledgeable friend: check plant tags and your local conditions, and call your county extension service for anything serious.
I don't know my garden's size or how much sun it gets.
That's fine. Choose "I'm not sure" and add a few photos. A fence, a door or steps in the shot lets us estimate the size, and we read the light from shadows, which way it faces and what's already growing. For sun, the best answer is the three-photo sun check: one photo each in the morning, at midday and in the afternoon. Every plan tells you what we estimated, so you can correct it.
What happens after the first year?
Your plans and conversations are yours to keep forever. To keep asking questions, plan new gardens and change your plans, renew for $49 a year. There's no automatic charge: you renew only if you want to.
Is there a limit?
Plan as many gardens as you like and ask as much as you like. To keep things fair for everyone there's a generous monthly cap (hundreds of questions) that everyday gardeners never come close to.
What happens to my photos?
They're stored privately, used only to answer you, and deleted as soon as your gardener has replied. What it noticed in them is saved in your plan so it can keep helping.
Does it work outside New Hampshire?
Yes. Your ZIP code sets your growing zone and frost dates, so it fits anywhere in the United States. Outside the U.S., type your town and country and we'll estimate.
Will it only recommend Knollwood plants?
No. It recommends whatever grows best in your garden, from any nursery or seed company. When a Knollwood dahlia or seed fits, it says so, with a link.
Does it make a good gift?
It does. Get in touch with their name and email, and we'll set it up so it's waiting for them.
Can Megan design my garden in person?
